Root Canal Treatment
Sometimes teeth become severely decayed or infected and require a root conal. Many patients associate infection with pain, but that’s not always the case. Some teeth can be chronically infected, meaning the infection is slow growing, and may not be painful at all. But, it’s still important to have these teeth treated to remove the active infection. Whether you have pain or not, your dentist may recommend a root canal.
As dentists we always strive to save natural teeth. Root canal treatment is a great treatment option for teeth that are damaged, infected, or inflamed. The pulp, which is the bundle of nerve and blood vessel tissue inside the tooth, may become symptomatic showing signs of achiness, throbbing, pressure or biting pain, or extreme temperature sensitivity to hot or cold. All of these signs are reasons you may need a root canal.
A root canal is a dental procedure that involves accessing the center of the tooth, or the pulp, and consists of cleaning, disinfecting and filling the area with dental material to prevent further infection and/or pain. After completing a root canal it’ll be recommended to seal the tooth by doing either a filling or crown to protect the tooth. Please ask us if you have any questions regarding this procedure. Root canals can be very successful and help you save a tooth.
